The Berks County Amateur Astronomical Society (BCAAS) is a tax-exempt nonprofit corporation founded in 1973.
Our mission goals:
- To promote the science of astronomy by encouraging and coordinating the activities of our members.
- To forward professional research by contributing amateur resources wherever possible.
- To educate the public, and introduce to all the splendors of the sky.
Who should join?
Do you or your children have a yearning to learn more about the night sky or to look through a "real" telescope and see the splendors of the universe first hand? If so, you are encouraged to join. BCAAS is made up of people from all walks of life, and its members are anxious to share their love and knowledge of astronomy.
The BCAAS meets on the second Thursday of each month. Meetings start at 7:30 P.M. and typically last 2 hours. They consist of a business portion followed by a program presented by club members or invited speakers. Meetings are held at the Bicentennial House, behind the Fire Station at 233 Playground Drive, in West Reading, PA. Feel free to drop by at one of our meetings, even if you are not a member.
We plan numerous Star Watches at various observing sites to view the sky by telescope, binoculars, or naked eye. No equipment is necessary to attend. This represents one of the best ways to introduce you or your children to the subject of astronomy. Details will be provided here on the website for upcoming public Star Watches.
Membership in our Society will bring you our bi-monthly newsletter, Pegasus, and members also receive substantial discounts on Astronomy and Sky & Telescope magazines and their related materials. Membership also includes the privilege of borrowing and using one of the Society's telescopes.
Annual dues are $25.00 for ages 16 and up, $15.00 for members under 16, and $30.00 for a family membership.
Our Membership Brochure can be found here.
