Thursday, October 10, 7:30 pm, Penn State Berks, Franco Bldg., Room 101

Speaker: Curtis Asplund, Visiting Assistant Professor of Physics and Astronomy, F&M College, Topic:

Decoding Black Holes

New results from theĀ Event Horizon Telescope, the LIGO & Virgo gravitational wave detectors, and telescopic observations of the center of our own galaxy are shining new light on black holes. But these objects are still mysterious, and physicists continue to argue about how they work, what laws they obey, and what would happen to you if you fell into one. I will discuss some of the latest theories and debates, including my own work that uses ideas from computer science and complex systems research to "decode" the deep structure of black holes.
