January 13, 2005

The meeting was called to order by new President Dave Brown at 7:32 with 30 in attendance. The Minutes of the December meeting were handed out. Visitors introduced themselves.

Linda Sensenig reported a balance of $7,270.82.

Upcoming Events:  The Huygens Probe is scheduled to land on Saturn’s moon Titan on January 14. NASA TV on the internet will have live coverage. The next BCAAS Board meeting will be February 5 at 12:30, at a place to be determined. The next General Meeting will be February 10. The speaker will be Bruce Dietrich. His program will be "The Crystalline Hemisphere ".  This is really the history and importance, of all things, glass. Without it mankind would not have developed (about 1600AD) the telescope and also the microscope. Ron noted that the Hiking Club will be having its next Full Moon hike to the Pinnacle at Pulpit Rock on January 23. Barb announced the dates of upcoming regional star parties and events: NEAF (North East Astronomy Forum) – April 16 and 17; ASH’s Cherry Springs Star Party – June 2 through 6, Mason-Dixon Star Party – July 6 through 10, and the Black Forest Star Party – September 2 through 4.

New Business:  There was discussion about whether or not to continue having our meetings at the Planetarium.  Ron noted that he had contacted numerous places in the past. Our best options are at Linda Sensenig’s church and the Flame Room at UGI. This will be discussed further at the Board meeting.  Dave also brought up that we should have more club observing events and fewer events at the Heritage Center. There was also discussion about possibly setting up an Aurora alert on our website.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30; after the meeting several members had items for sale at our first club Swap Meet.

Respectfully submitted,

Barbara Geigle, Secretary
