B.C.A.A.S. MEETING MINUTES

June 8, 2006

In Dave’s absence, Bret Cadmus called the meeting to order at 7:35. There were 25 in attendance.

Sky Report: On June 10, Antares will be near the almost-full moon and Jupiter’s Great Red Spot transits at 11:53 PM EDT. On June 18, Mars will pass within .6 degrees of Saturn. Summer Solstice occurs on June 21 at 7:26 EST.  Ron Kunkel noted that he was at Pulpit Rock on May 27 and viewing Jupiter most of the evening. The star watch at Larry Citro’s home was the same night. Six people attended and enjoyed good views of Jupiter and various galaxies.

Larry has invited everyone to his home for another star watch on June 24 at dusk.

The star watch at the Wyomissing Hills Elementary School on May 12 was well attended. Jupiter, Saturn and the moon were observed.

Treasurer’s Report:  Linda reported a balance of $$$$. She is taking orders for the 2007 Astronomy calendar, which will be $6.50 this year. She would like to send in the order in September.

Mark Galiyano announced that he purchased a family registration for the Cherry Springs Star Party June 22-26, but is now unable to attend. He is willing to transfer the registration to any member interested at no charge. Please contact Mark. (Following is the transfer policy from the ASH website www.astrohbg.org: Registrations are transferable according to the following policy: The person wishing to transfer must inform the president of ASH with a signed letter giving the names of the old and new registrant. This letter must be received at least 3 days before the start of the CSSP. that is, by June 16, 2006 at: Astronomical Society of Harrisburg, Cherry Springs Star Party, PO Box 160, Lewisberry, PA 17339.)

Ron Kunkel announced that the 8 inch Cave telescope has been sold to a man in New Mexico for $1,000. He paid a deposit of $200 and will pay the balance when he picks it up sometime this summer.

Ron gave an informative presentation on “The Structure and Evolution of the Milky Way Galaxy”.
