B.C.A.A.S. MEETING MINUTES
July 10, 2008
The meeting was called to order by Barb Geigle with 7 in attendance. She noted some of the objects currently viewable. She also announced that Cherry Springs State Park has officially been designated as the second International Dark Sky Park by the IDA. NASA has set the dates for the final 10 shuttle missions.
Upcoming events:
July 30 – August 3: Mason-Dixon Star Party in York County
July 31 – August 3: Stellafane
August 9: Public star watches at Blue Marsh Lake and French Creek State Park. Telescopes needed at both.
August 9 – 12: Spruce Knob Star Party
September 5 – 7: Black Forest Star Party at CSSP
Our next meeting will be the annual picnic at Dave Brown’s farm on our regular meeting night of August 14, at 6 pm. Please bring a covered dish, snack or drink to share.
Linda gave a Treasurer’s report; Barb gave a report on the Night Sky Network and the Pennsylvania Outdoor Lighting Council.
As Gene Salvatore has resigned as Program Chair, a volunteer(s) is needed.
As this was Member’s Night, talks were given by Linda Sensenig on string theory, Barb Geigle on supernovae, Ron Kunkel with an update on the Milky Way, and Lane Davis showed some pictures, notably the aurora at Cherry Springs in 2002.
Respectfully submitted
Barbara Geigle, Secretary
