B.C.A.A.S. MEETING MINUTES
April 10, 2008
Dave Brown called the meeting to order. We had 24 in attendance. He noted that the public star watch at Blue Marsh had been cancelled due to weather.
Dave also said he listened to the Night Sky Network Teleconference last night. Barb wasn’t able to participate as she had a PA Outdoor Lighting Council meeting that ran late. She noted that we were just invited to participate in a bonus joint teleconference with the Solar System Ambassador group at JPL. The teleconference will be held Monday, May 12, from 6 to 7:30 pm, and will discuss the Mars Phoenix Lander, which will reach Mars on May 25.
Upcoming Events – Due to the anticipated rain tomorrow night, the star watch at the Berks County Heritage Center has been rescheduled for this Saturday night, May 10, at 8 pm. This is also National Astronomy Day.
Friday, May 16 at 8:30 pm will be the annual star watch at Wyomissing Hills Elementary School. Several classes have been invited so we will need all the telescopes we can get!
Friday, May 24 at dusk – Club star watch at the Flying Field
Treasurer’s Report – Linda reported a balance of $$$$$ plus the CD. This does not include the upcoming bills for our liability insurance and Astronomical League dues. She announced that her father is expected to come home from the nursing home at the end of May.
Dave noted that several nearby clubs have cancelled their memberships with the Astronomical League and thought it might be time for us to reconsider our membership. It was unanimously approved for the Board to discuss this.
We will have Member’s Night at our July meeting. Anyone wishing to make a short presentation should contact Gene Salvatore.
The newest Pegasus is available on the website.
Tonight’s program was given by Dave Brown: excerpts from “The Genesis of Planets” by Douglas N.C. Lin, from “Scientific American” magazine.
