B.C.A.A.S. General Meeting Minutes
July 11, 2002
The meeting was called to order by President Barry Shupp at 7:40 p.m. with 22 attendees. Treasurer Linda Sensenig reported a balance of $7,935.69. The League dues and insurance renewal premium were paid. It was decided that our 30th Anniversary banquet would be held at Chef Alans in October 2003. She will send a $200 deposit check to hold the room.
Ron Kunkel reviewed the program presented at Kids Sports. There were approximately 70 children divided into two groups and included finding north by stars, south by the sun, and solar observing.
L.V.A.A.S. President Bob Bukovsky reminded us that B.C.A.A.S. members were invited to spend an evening observing at Pulpit Rock, and handed out maps. Gate is to be open at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 13.
Other upcoming events include a public starwatch at Blue Marsh on July 26 at 7:30, with Ron Kunkel to give a talk. Rain date is July 27. The Stellafane Convention is August 9-11 in Springfield, VT; and the Chesmont Clubs Starfest will be at Warwick County Park on August 9. Our annual picnic will be August 10 at Dave Browns farm, at 5:30 p.m. Everyone should bring a covered dish, and there will be observing if weather permits. There will also be a public starwatch at Hawk Mountain on August 17 at dusk.
Barry also noted that there is an email virus going around.
For members night, programs were presented by Tom Boussum on celestial mechanics, Ron Kunkel on cosmology, and Barry Shupp on astrophotography. Lloyd Adams was ill, so his program on Stellafane was postponed.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:50 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara Geigle, Secretary
