B.C.A.A.S. General Meeting Minutes
October 10, 2002 The meeting was called to order by President Barry Shupp at 7:30 p.m. with 43 attendees. Treasurer Linda Sensenig announced that she was collecting money for "Astronomy" and "Sky and Telescope" subscription renewals and for the Astronomy calendar. Barry stated that the starwatch for Friday night at the Berks County Heritage Center would be postponed to Saturday due to the weather. Ron Kunkel will send an email Saturday to let us know if it will still be held.Priscilla Andrews invited BCAAS members to attend the LVAAS 45th Anniversary Banquet to be held Sunday, November 3, beginning at 4:00 p.m. at the Days Inn Conference Center in Allentown. There will be a buffet dinner and music, and the speaker will be Dr. Robert Zubrin of the Mars Society. Tickets are currently $40 per person, but will be going up soon.
Barry Shupp stated that the Board had approved buying a trailer for club use, and selling the clubs C-11 and 4" refractor to help fund the purchase of the trailer, and possible a couple smaller scopes. After a brief discussion, Ryan Hannahoe moved, and Melody Gardner seconded that the members approve this transaction. The motion carried unanimously.
Ron Kunkel announced that there would be another auction of the Pocono Mountain Optics stock on October 26 at the Best Western in Easton. At the previous auction, there was a 10% surcharge on credit card payments, but not for cash.
After a short break, Ryan introduced Dr. Robert Stencel, of the University of Denver. He gave a talk entitled "Astronomy in the 22nd Century", a thoughtful look at how technology and attitudes may affect the development of astronomy in the future. The meeting was adjourned and refreshments were served.
