B.C.A.A.S. BOARD MEETING MINUTES
March 13, 2003
Ron Kunkel requested a short board meeting following the general meeting. He noted that he had received an email from someone interested in the Unitron telescope, and wanted to know if he should follow up on it. The Board members still want to try the scope and its accessories at a star watch before making a decision to sell it.
Also, two 8" Cave cassegrain telescopes were donated to the club. These are 2 of only 5 made. Ryan has received at least numerous offers in the $800 to $2500 range, with three offers exceeding $2500. As these scopes are huge and weigh over 150 pounds, they are more suited to a permanent observatory, or set up on wheels and stored in a trailer. The Board decided to try the scopes out at the Hannahoe home, (where they are taking over the basement). Ron will set up a date when a clear night is predicted.
Arrangements for the Great Outdoor Expo were discussed. As only one chair is supplied, everyone attending should bring a chair.
Melody Gardner will be submitted the registration paperwork for Earth Day. Also, she noted that Blue Ball Elementary School wants a program with viewing after Earth Day. As NEAF is May 17 and 18, and Mason-Dixon Star Party is May 30, 31 and June 1, May 23, with a rain date of May 24, was chosen for the school program. Melody will confirm. Ron noted that the Penn Laurel Girl Scouts would like a program during the week of July 21.
As the clubs Hotline answering machine died, the board approved Pauls expenditure for a new machine. He had already purchased one to keep the hotline up. Paul wanted to know if we were going to purchase binoculars for a raffle at the Heritage Center Star Party. He can get a pair at Orion for $50. Barb is going to research the Internet for a better deal. The idea is to sell tickets at the star watch and give away the binoculars that same night.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:50.
Respectfully submitted,
Barbara Geigle, Secretary
